Beautiful hike, we did the 2km hike to Valagil and then continued to the falls on a 7km loop. Easy to navigate, well marked trail, bring hiking boots or water proof shoes.

We did this hike early October 2024, with just a small amount of snow on the ground; only went 1.3 miles in given time (2.6 miles RT) so not to the complete loop if you're using AllTrails - just to the Valagil waterfall.

We were the only people there the whole time; the waterfall itself is not too impressive in how much water there is, but is tall and comes out of this opening in the mountain. What makes the hike special is the towering mountains surrounding it - with fresh snow on them, makes the experience divine.

Free parking, no bathrooms. Wear hiking shoes; not hard hike at all, just a bit messy with some stream/rock crossings. Well-marked with blue sticks, another path is outlined in yellow I think after the bridge.

Highly recommend to do this if you're near Isafjordur.

A short, easy, 2km hike on a well marked trail. I'm sure with more rain or earlier in the season, it's breathtaking! For the water flow, we saw it was still amazing! We visited the last day of July.

All’estremità del fiordo di Álftafjörður, si apre una valle circondata da alte montagne di lava antica all’interno della quale scorrono alcuni corsi d’acqua che generano delle alte cascate. La visita a Valagil inizia da un comodo parcheggio auto in prossimità della strada principale che costeggia il fiordo. Già da qui intravedono due cascate in lontananza. Si parte seguendo il sentiero poco impegnativo che costeggia il fiume. Ci vogliono circa 2Km per raggiungere il punto più interessante cioè la gola della cascata che rimane nascosta fino all’ultimo metro. Si tratta di un impressionante spettacolo, una profonda e stretta fenditura nella roccia alta centinaia di metri. Dopo un primo importante salto, l’acqua affronta svariati e successivi dislivelli regalando altre cascate minori, un insieme difficile da trovare anche da queste parti.

Good walks from the car park. One day I did yellow Path with Takes you to about 5 waterfalls. Another day went to Valagil. Blue Path doesnt finish there if you ad another 90 mins walk plus hike you Reach the top waterfall at the end of the Valley.

Great 4km hike - 2km to each direction. Definitely you will need hiking boots at least if you go there in spring - muddy trails, snow and small mountain springs you will need to overcome. The gorge with waterfall will be on your right, just follow the poles along the route and you will find it.

Really enjoyed this 30 minute hike to this hidden gem of a waterfall, just be prepared with proper boots to manage the muddy trails. Don't be fooled by the gigantic Valagil gorge waterfalls, it is not the Seljalandsdalur. This one is hidden on the right side of the valley as you approach these falls. My pictures should help capture the beauty of this area.

Great hidden gem hike that takes a little over an hour round trip. the falls are hidden until the very end - not the ones you see from the road! Also berries along the way to eat
