Beautiful little drinking spring, about 30-45 min easy hike from the parking area. Fairly hard to locate unless you know where you're looking, since it's off to the side of the little waterfall and stream. Water is good but slightly metallic taste, very mild fizz.

We loved the experience of finding the carbonated spring. It was a sunny day, end of May.
If you are a sparkling water lover, don’t expect a much carbonated water. It’s more like a one week old opened sparkling water.

After reading the different reviews, we had no difficulties finding it.
From parking lot to the spring, to the waterfall and back, it took us less than 45 min.

It is an easy stroll, but come on a sunny day. With rain, it might not be as pleasant and easy.

It is a gravel road til the end. Go at your own risks and ride carefully.

After you have passed Gerduberg Cliffs’ parking lot, keep following the road. You’ll see a church on your right.
At some point, the road will end and you’ll see a gate with a sign “Rauðamelsölkelda”.
It’s a 5-10 min ride.

There’s a path that will take you towards the waterfall. It took us 10 min to arrive to the spring.

At some point, you’ll have to cross a bridge. Go towards the small waterfall on the right side following the path, that’s more or less visible.

You can hear the bubbles if there’s not much wind.
The spring is contoured by rocks and has some depth, unlike the other mud pits.

I’ve added a picture with a pink check indicating the spot of the spring.

Wonderful walk. Not a bad walk from the parking lot. When we came, however the spring it was dried up. There’s a waterfall very close so it’s totally worth it for the view and the hike but a bit disappointing to find a dried up spring. We came in the end of July so maybe that had something to do with it.

Natural carbonated mineral spring. Taste just like sparkling water 🙂 really cool experience. It's about a 10 minute walk from the parking area. (Just keep driving down the road after the cliffs). You'll walk through the lava fields and then eventually start walking through grass. After that you'll cross a bridge. Soon after the path splits - take the one that's NOT in the direction of the waterfall. The spring should be close by after.

Google map led to the wrong spot, to get there - follow the road gerduberg cliff and then continue by car. At the end of the road, park and walk for 5-10 mins. It was raining the day we were here, so the dried-up resevior seems to be just filled up by the waterfall / rain. Note that to go to the resevior, after cross the stream, follow a path leading towards right side before going towards the waterfall. The bridge is not properly placed but you can cross the stream easily.

Spring had dried up. Like someone had posted earlier take path to right not toward waterfall. Spring is a little pile of mud next to a rock when dry. Cool thing was we heard gas so poured our water bottle into mud and it started to bubble up. Quite cool. (And then refilled water in waterfall). Drive in feels wrong- like you’re somewhere you’re not supposed to be - but all good. Nice to find beautiful spots where no crowds.
