Came here just before 8pm on a Thursday. Luckily made it for happy hours. We had heard good things about this place and about how the music is really good. Sadly the vibe was extremely mellow. My JBL flip 5 plays louder music than the whole bar. Maybe I was early but it was a real let down. The bartender was more interested in her phone and refused to serve me a large G&T. I was informed that R5 does not serve a 60ml gin when she the measured she poured my drink in had 60ml on the opposite side. Really weird! I’ll probably give it another shot a little later in the night 🤞🏽

Petit bar relax, service super. Belle place pour une pause après avoir marcher goute la journée. Très bonne biére local et ils ont même de la guiness. La IPA local (ULFUR) est excellente.

R5 Micro Bar in Akureyri is a very relaxed, beer lounge around 6 minutes walk from Akureyri church. The music was good during our visit and it wasn’t too loud either which was more than welcome after a long day. The craft beer selection isn’t as diverse as one would normally expect from a beer lounge but what they had was fairly good. R5 is definitely worth a stop if out and about at night in Akureyri.

This place has huge potential to be the top beer spot in the north of Iceland but seems to make little effort to stock interesting beers, or much else that is unusual or eye-catching. A wasted opportunity.

This was our night time pint spot.
Delicious beer, sours and cocktails.
I only knock off a star for the service. Unfriendly vibes. We eventually switched places to try and find nicer service.
