Beautiful and peaceful midcentury modern hostel with great views. Great place to stop on the way to the westfjords for a quiet night. Fully stocked kitchen and plenty of common space to spread out

We spent one night at this beautifully located hostel, situated right along the water where birds like to nest down and is out in the country. As have been all the hi hostels in Iceland, this one is no different, impeccably clean. There are lots of big windows in all the public areas as well as the rooms allowing in lots of light but also showcasing the fantastic views. There is a great kitchen, eating area, and lounging area with good wifi available. There is also a public computer for use. They do have a washer and dryer but we found it painfully slow and it didn't work very well for us. Beds, blankets and pillows were all comfortable, sheets you provided on your own unless you paid extra. ||||Bathrooms were a good size with lots of hot water. There were 2 bathrooms for about 4 or 5 rooms. There is a bookshelf for reading. The lady who we met at the check in was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this hostel.

Well kept hostel in beautiful quiet surroundings - you can see puffins from the kitchen windows as advertised but you need the binoculars provided :-). We had a double room in the upstairs section, which used to be the headmaster's apartment when the building was still a school. The kitchen was large and well equipped and there was a spacious and friendly dining room and lounge with pretty decorations. Everything was clean and functional, but remember to bring your own bedlinen or pay an extra fee.

Great out of the way place to stay and an adventure to get to. The hostel is actually a retired school house in which the owners live on the ground floor and the hostel is on the top floor. The main area has wall to wall window all that look out over the coast. ||||The hostel was spacious, clean and well kept. With great bird watching and just quiet relaxing. ||||I would recommend a stay - but make sure to fill up on gas before heading out!!

The hostel is a little bit dated but is completely functional with all the necessary amenities, and was very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the double room I was in had big windows with an amazing view of the fjord and an island full of puffins.||The drive to get there was picturesque (in a generally very picturesque country) and well worth leaving Road 1 to get to it. It felt like real Icelandic wilderness. The caretaker/receptionist was also very friendly and even gave us a tour of the local farms which are very different to those in Australia; this added to the experience. The view combined with the drive, amenities and the very friendly reception made this stay excellent.

Dieses nette Hostel mit einem grossen Wohnzimmer und Küche liegt völlig im verlassen und einsam an einem Fjord und ist nur über gute Schotterpisten erreichbar! Das Doppelzimmer war eher klein, aber sehr sauber und hatte eine unglaublich tolle Aussicht auf den Fjord. Im Fall einer klaren Nacht könnte man von hier aus bestimmt extrem gut Polarlichter beobachten. Auch kann man nach Robben Ausschau halten.

This hostel lies in the middle of nowhere, next to the water, so the view is great and it's so silent!||Outside, the building looks quite modern, with white and black colours.||Inside, the interior looks a bit "aged" and for me there wasn't a good atmosphere... For example; only TL lights on the ceilings, no small lights that can create a bit of cosiness, no paintings or other decorations on the walls. But still, the view is great:)||I was there at the end of august, so high season was gone, therefore there weren't a lot of people.||When I arrived, there was nobody, except for the guy from the reception. I didn't feel very comfortable to be there all alone in that big, bleak building.. The guy from the reception sometimes just disappeared (where to? I don't have a clue...).||||The dormroom was big enough, with bunkbeds, 2 tables and 2 chairs, and still enough space to put your luggage. You can use extra duvets (stored in the closet in the dormroom). ||I slept there with my sleepingbag (= cheaper), but you can also pay to use linen||There are also private rooms available, but I think no room has a private bathroom.||There are 2 toilets on the ground floor and 2 showers. There's also an upstairs, but I haven't been there.||The kitchen is okay. A bit old, but most of it functions. There is a refrigerator where you can store your groceries.||The dormroom was clean, but the door didn't close well. ||The showers weren't very clean, lot of hairs on the floor. The other rooms were clean. ||||The nearest town is Hólmavík, 36km away. The road towards the town is half asphalt, half gravelroad (about 30 min. drive). In Hólmavík is a small supermarket, gasstation and museum of sorcery and witchcraft (not that great..).

It is spacious and clean and although a bit isolated it is not as isolated the picture suggests. The kitchen and lounge/dining area are a good size. ||It could do with more bathrooms though. There are two areas there to stay, but not sure how one chooses one or the other. You can see lots of birds from the hostel.
