We enjoyed the ferry rides over to Grimsey and back. When we left Siglufjordur in the morning and got to the tunnel, it was closed. We worried that we'd miss the ferry as we didn't know how long it was going to be closed. Evidently, they close it to traffic heaaded toward Dalvik because they want the tour buses to arrive from that direction going toward Siglufjordur in the morning. By the time we got to the gate at the tunnel, we waited for ten minutes for all the traffic to clear and the tunnel to reopen. So make sure to leave time to account for this. We did arrive at the ferry in plenty of time to find good seats. Although we spent most of our time on deck because the weather was fabulous, and the sea was incredibly calm. Don't forget to find some motion sickness meds ahead of time if you typically need them. They don't have anything on the ferry. It was calm enough for me that it didn't matter.

Had to give this an excellent rating for an overall unbeatable experience. We traveled to Grímsey in late September, both violently ill with just one other couple on board, and no sickness on the return ferry. We had about two hours (Thursdays have shorter trips) and hiked to the arctic circle upon arrival. This isn’t for the weak when the seas are choppy. However, we really wanted to get to the marker and this ferry was our ticket! Makes for a funny story if you’re ok with puking in a paper bag.

Free parking. Boarding started 30 minutes prior to launch. Comfortable seating inside. Outer decks for photos and fresh air. Drinks and snacks for sale on board. Clean bathrooms. 3hr trip over with 4hr lay over. There is plenty of time for a long hike to Artic Circle monument. Loads of Puffins nesting in June. Cafe near dock for drinks, hot food, and sweets. Smooth trip both ways for our voyage. About 10hrs total trip.

If you want to cross the Arctic circle in Iceland, this is how you do it. The day I took the ferry, we saw whales, dolphins, and puffins. It was a slow ride. A one way trip is three hours and you'll be subjected to breathtaking views. You have plenty of time to explore Grimsey Island before getting on the return. There are refreshments and snacks for purchase on the ferry. Dress warmly and check the schedule because the ferry doesn't run daily.

Gita in giornata a Grimsey.

Přijeli jsme do Dalviku a zaparkovali přímo před trajektem.

Dalvik Ferry to Grimsey Island was a great experience. Lots of free parking right down by the ferry at the marina. Some snacks, drinks, and sandwiches available on board. They keep a tight schedule, book ahead and show up early. Seating area was clean and comfortable, lots of room on deck to walk around and see the views.
