Maður veit ekki hvað lífið er fyrr en maður hefur borðað á hótel Flatey. Lambið er það albesta sem við höfum á ævinni smakkað… og plokkfiskurinn…. … súkkulaðikaka með rjóma 👌 the best resturant in the whole iceland. You have not taisted í icelandic lamb, fisk… just all the food ís beond best.. sí exellant food and the staff ís grate. 10 stars from the 4 of US👍🥂🍺🍻😄😎🐟🐏☀️🍽☕️

Frábært hótel og frábær þjónusta. Gistum í Lunda þar sem var hjónarúm og koja fyrir 5 ára pjakkinn og ekkert mál að fá ferðarúm fyrir 18 mánaða krílið .. allt uppsett og tilbúið þegar við mættum. Ferðafélagar okkar óskuðu eftir öðru herbergi við komuna til að vera nær okkur og því var bara reddað á núll einni ekkert mál! Veitingastaðurinn frábær. Virkilega ánægð með dvölina en ef það er eitthvað sem ég myndi benda á þá er það að vera með smá fræðsluefni um eyjuna og umhverfið inná herberginu, segja frá uppruna húsanna sem hótelið tilheyrir og annarra húsa í kring. Einnig fara yfir hluti sem gaman er að skoða á svæðinu og almennt sögu eyjunnar.

Luogo incantevole gestito alla grande. Personale gentile e professionale. Colazione, pranzo e cena strepitosi. Abbiamo preso la camera con bagno in comune ed era più pulito di molti hotel.

I arrived in Flatey a bit tired and disoriented... Starving...
I rushed to the only restaurant of the island, I was alone there, so I was also a bit stressed...
Then Lily came to explain the menu, and she went literally extra miles to make me feel confortable, I felt like she was waiting for me, serving me delicious food and wine, and absolutely charming the whole lunch!
It made my day, and my experience in Flatey, I absolutely enjoy the island after that.
So thank you Lily, I guess you welcome a lot of people everyday, but keeping this sense of service and kindness is exceptional!!

Our stay on Flatey made for the best serene adventure. We were the first guests of the season at Hotel Flatey and the only tourists staying overnight on the island. This made for a rejuvenating solitude. It was fascinating to explore the tiny island, and imagine what life was like back in the heyday when it was a cultural epicenter. It was fascinating to imagine what life is like now, during a busy tourist season and during the dead of winter when only two farmers (who apparently have no affection for each other…) call the island home.

Our room had a view that I don’t have adequate words to describe. You could throw the windows open wide (if the winds allow), and be lulled to sleep by the ocean waves (best to bring your eye mask for the midnight sun). I fully recommend the suite in the second house to you.

The bed was VERY soft. I could see it being too soft for the firm bed folks - but I think you all are crazy, personally.

There were two bathrooms in our building. I could see this being a unique experience to work around when there’s actually a full house. But hey, having to share amenities also creates beautiful opportunities for connection.

The staff were so kind and attentive. We got to know one of the waitresses a bit, who shared some beautiful descriptions and tips that have us making plans for our next Iceland adventure. She also was kind enough to whip us up “Flajitos”- the Flatey mojito, made with pickled rhubarb. We also got to know one of the chefs, who made incredible food (mushroom soup from a recipe passed down from an Icelandic grandma?!) and also hung out and chatted with us as we waited for our departing ferry.

Loved this. Give it a go. In case it’s helpful: you can’t drive your car on to the island. Instead, you have to purchase the appropriate ticket and arrange to have the ferry staff drive your car off at the other side and park it. It will be waiting for you to arrive when you make the rest of your voyage. Very slick.
