Gígvatnsvatn: Ein Vært for Naturlystne

Andre interessante opplysninger

Gígvatnsvatn is a beautiful blue/green lake off the side of the road right near the Krysuvik geothermal area. Parking is free.

The surrounding landscape and abandoned farm are quite surreal - like a scene from a post apocalyptic movie. It is very quiet here.

Not somewhere to spend a great deal of time, but if you are in the area it is definitely worth stopping to see the beauty of the lake and its surrounds.

We stopped for the Geocache near the ruin, this place also offer a bit higher Parking and a bit better view of the lake, than the more official perking spot, so we suggest you park near the ruin.

The little lake is spectacular even if the sun is hidden behind clouds. No people around.

Carino.

Good location for a photo stop. Small car park (no facilities) on left hand side as you travel south on Route 42. Very peaceful location and superb views over the lake. There is a hiking trail signpost in the parking area - follow this for 50m taking you over the brow of the hill - you will be standing on the rim of a large crater which is not visible from the road. Enjoy.

Gígvatnsvatn is a beautiful green lake near the Krysuvik geothermal area. It is a cool stop close to the road, where you can enjoy the scenery and take some photos. The lake is surrounded by lava fields and mountains, creating a contrast of colors and textures. The lake is also near an abandoned farm, which adds some history and mystery to the place. I would recommend this spot to anyone who wants to see a different side of Iceland.
